WASHINGTON, NJ - Federal legislation that would extend the eviction moratorium for those impacted by COVID-19 to March 27, 2021, as well as expand it to cover all renters, passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 232-180, with the support of Congressman Albio Sires (D-NJ-08).
The bill, H.R. 7301, also provides $100 billion for emergency rental assistance that can be used to cover rent and utility bills and includes $75 billion for a Homeowner Assistance Fund for homeowners who are struggling to pay housing costs.
“Residents of New Jersey’s 8th District, along with families across the country, are struggling to pay their rent and mortgages as the economic fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic continues,” said Sires. “No one should have to worry about keeping a roof over their head, especially during a global pandemic.
“Senator McConnell should take H.R. 7301 up for a vote and not ignore the needs of the people.”
