JERSEY CITY, NJ - Following the lead of some private sector employers, Jersey City municipal employees have been notified by the city’s Department of Human Resources that they will resume their normal hours in their usual workplace in May.

This will end the city’s work at home program that was initiated in March 2020 when a state of emergency was declared due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The city has prepared the workplaces over the last few months to assure a safe return, Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione, a city spokesperson, said, including the installation of plexiglass dividers where the employees interact with the public.

Some areas have been redesigned to restrict public access and public toilets have been altered to become single use. The city has also stocked up on its supply of PPE and mask-wearing and social distancing will be mandatory.
