JERSEY CITY, NJ - Residents along the west side of Jersey City got an early, and somewhat scary, start Friday after a portion of the Hudson Generating Station was demolished at about 5:40 a.m.
The property is currently owned by Hilco Redevelopment Partners of Chicago which took position of the site in January 2019.
City officials have said they were unaware of the proposed demolition which would seem to be prohibited under local noise ordinances that prohibit such work prior to 7:00 a.m.
“If you were awakened by a loud explosion this a.m., I’m told it was the implosion of the old boilers at the PSEG plant on Duffield Street at 5:40 this morning,” Councilman Rolando Lavarro said in a Facebook post. “Presumably it was all controlled and planned.”
