On Feb. 16, officials reported that at approximately 9 p.m., a woman suffering from an apparent gunshot wound was found at Edison Place and Bruen Street in Newark. A second woman, also suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, was found on Haynes Avenue as well, officials said.

The preliminary investigation indicates these are two related homicides at two different scenes.

Shinkarevskaya was discovered on the sidewalk at the Haynes Avenue location and pronounced dead at 9:53 p.m., according to authorities. Shpilberg, who is believed to have had a romantic relationship with Menendez, was in the passenger seat of her vehicle and pronounced dead at 9:55 p.m., officials said.

A spokesperson for the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office did not immediately respond for comment on the arrest.

Authorities said the investigation is active and ongoing.
