JERSEY CITY, NJ - A 27-year-old Jersey City man has been arrested in connection with the April 6 shooting death of 23-year-old Javone Smith, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has announced.
According to Suarez, Kenyowa Pinkney turned himself in just after 11:00 a.m. Tuesday. Pinkney has since been charged with several crimes including Murder and Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose.
On the day of the incident members of the Jersey City Police Department responded to shots fired in the area of Martin Luther King Drive and Myrtle Avenue just before 6:30 p.m. Upon arrival officers found Smith with multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body.
The victim was transported to the Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased at approximately 6:49 p.m.
Smith's shooting death was one of four that took place in the city in the span of a week, including of 17-year-old Stephanie Jacques who was shot on April 1, Two men have been charged in that incident.
