JERSEY CITY, NJ - A 23-year-old Jersey City man has been arrested and charged in the March 31 shooting death of Damone Smith, 25.

According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit arrested and charged Phillip Wiggins, 23, Jersey City at a Seymour Avenue home in Newark just before 7:00 p.m. Wednesday.

Wiggins, who was also found to be wanted in Texas, was arrested without incident and charged with Murder and various weapons charges, Suarez said.

As previously reported, members of the Jersey City Police Department responded to the area of Rose and Cantor Avenue at about 8:30 p.m. on March 31 on the report of the shooting. Upon arrival officers learned that the victim had been transported by private vehicle to Jersey City Medical Center after suffering gunshot wounds to his upper body. Smith was pronounced dead at about 2:15 a.m. on April 1.
