JERSEY CITY, NJ - A 17-year-old Jersey City girl is dead after being shot in the “upper body” Monday night. 

According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez members of the Jersey City Police Department responded to the area of Rutgers Avenue and New Street on a report of shots fired at approximately 10:30 p.m. Once on scene police found the victim, identified as Tyeah Garner.

Garner was transported to the Jersey City Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased at 4:36 a.m. on Tuesday.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are actively investigating this case. No arrests have been made at this time.
