JERSEY CITY, NJ - A 21-year-old Jersey City man became the city’s third murder victim of the week Saturday when he was gunned down in the area of Ocean Avenue between Bidwell and Bayview Avenues.

According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, members of the Jersey City Police Department responded to the area shortly after 3:15 p.m. on a report of shots fired. Once on scene police found the victim, later identified as Akim Ward shot in the upper body. Ward was transported to the Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased at 3:31 p.m. 

Damone Smith, 25, died Wednesday after being shot the previous night in the area of  Cator Avenue and Rose Avenue, and two teens were shot just before 8:00 p.m. Thursday in the area of Martin Luther King Drive and Forrest Street. Stephanie Jacques, 17, one of the victims, died Thursday after being released from Jersey City Medical Center.
