JERSEY CITY, NJ -  A 25-year-old Jersey City man was shot and killed in the area of Cator Avenue and Rose Avenue Tuesday, according to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez.

In a statement Suarez announced that members of the Jersey City Police Department responded to the area just after 8:30 p.m. on a report of shots fired.

Once on scene responding officers were informed that the victim, later identified as Damone Smith, 25, was transported to Jersey City Medical Center in a private vehicle. Smith suffered gunshot wounds to the upper body and was pronounced dead at approximately 2:15 a.m. Wednesday.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are actively investigating this case. No arrests have been made at this time.
