HOBOKEN, NJ - Just before 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Hoboken Police arrested a man accused of robbing a purse from one of two women walking together near 2nd & Clinton Streets.
According to the Hoboken Police Department, ESU Officer William Bullock and ESU Officer James Barbro responded immediately after one of the women called to report of a Robbery in progress. The officers were met by two females who were able to point out the male perpetrator as he was walking south on Clinton Street. Officer Bullock exited his vehicle to approach the alleged robber, who then began running west on 2nd Street.
Officer Bullock chased after the suspect and caught up with Dontae Black, 28, Jersey City, near 2nd and Grand Streets.
Black had allegedly approached one of the females and demanded that she turn over her purse. During the ensuing struggle, one of the females called for the police, while Black eventually gained control of the purse and ran away.
Upon being placed under arrest, Black was subsequently searched and was found to be in possession of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia. The victim’s purse was found in the immediate area.
Black was charged with Robbery, Simple Assault, Resisting Arrest, Possession of CDS Crack Cocaine, and Drug Paraphernalia. Charges were placed on a warrant, and he was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
He is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
