TRENTON, NJ -- The COVID-19 Emergency Rental Assistance Program offered through the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA) will provide temporary rental assistance to low- and moderate-income households that have had a substantial reduction in income or became unemployed due the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.

Applicants may be eligible for a maximum of up to six months of emergency rental assistance. The assistance will be capped at DCA’s fair market rent standard or the total of the rent, whichever is less. All participants will be reviewed at the three-month interval to see if they are still in need of assistance.

“While social distancing and stay at home orders have proven critical in restoring our communities back to physical health, we also need to continue to focus on our economic health,” Assemblyman Benjie Wimberly said. Wimberly also chairs the New Jersey General Assembly's Housing Committee. “This is a sensible program that makes sure tenants, especially working families, are able to meet the demands of their household budgets.”

Only one pre-application per household will be accepted. All participants will be selected through an online lottery process. Applications to the program can be submitted online starting on July 6th at 9:00 a.m. by clicking here.
