Halston Media has recently revamped its editorial department, adding a few new staff members, while some veteran staffers take on some new responsibilities.

Thomas Walogorsky has joined the Halston team as the new editor of The Somers Record and North Salem News. He graduated with an English degree from SUNY Buffalo. Prior to joining Halston, Walogorsky had been the editor of The Pawling Record.

Walogorsky, who resides in Brewster, said he’s excited to join Halston Media, but noted that while learning the ropes of a new job is always challenging, it is even more so during the pandemic as staff members work from home and many events and meetings take place via Zoom.

“It’s been a challenge, but I have a great team behind me,” he said. “It is coming along.”

He said the communities of Somers and North Salem have both welcomed him with open arms.

“They are great communities, and everyone has been very helpful and supportive,” he said. “There are definitely stories to tell.”

Walogorsky works with our beat reporter, Carol Reif, who covers North Salem and Somers.

Meanwhile, Nick Trujillo joins Halston Media as a beat reporter for Yorktown News and The Katonah-Lewisboro Times.

Trujillo earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. Before that, he graduated from Somers High School, where he grew up with The Somers Record, and was even spotlighted in that publication as an Athlete of the Week.

Trujillo said he’s already written dozens of articles for his papers and was happy to hit the ground running.

“It’s good to get back in the swing of things,” he said. “It is good to serve the community and get the news out there.”

Trujillo said that being from Somers, he is very familiar with the surrounding communities of Yorktown and Katonah/Lewisboro.

“Everyone has been so nice and been keeping me updated,” he said of the town and school officials. “They’ve been a big help.”

Trujillo also said reporting during the pandemic brings with it its own special set of challenges.

“It’s been a weird experience trying to learn everything on the fly, but it’s been fun,” he said.

Brian Marschhauser, who had served as Halston Media’s sports editor and editor of Yorktown News, is once again adding The Katonah-Lewisboro Times to his list of responsibilities. Marschhauser was the original editor of The Katonah-Lewisboro Times when it was launched in 2018.

Bob Dumas remains as the editor of Mahopac News.

The editorial team is joined by a small army of freelance reporters and columnists, including Tom Bartley and Trudy Walz, both of whom have worked closely with the team for many years.

Finally, Vim Wilkinson joins Halston Media as a special sections editor. Check out her first project this week with the Hudson Valley Spring Guide, which can be found inside this week’s newspaper.
