CROSS RIVER, N.Y. - The long-awaited announcement of John Jay High School's new mascot will have to wait a little longer.

Days after holding a vote to replace its Indians mascot, the Katonah-Lewisboro School District is going back to the drawing board because of newly raised concerns over one of its two mascot candidates—Ravens or Wolfpack.

The district, in a letter to school community, did not reveal which mascot choice is potentially problematic, but some residents had raised concerns about Wolfpack on social media, saying the term had been used by Nazis during WWII and by white supremacist gangs.

Results of Monday's vote were scheduled to be announced today.

The district's letter is below:

Dear KLSD Community,

We are writing today to provide an update regarding the mascot selection process.

As you are aware, we recently presented two options to students and staff — the Ravens and the Wolfpack. Based on concerns that have been shared in recent days regarding potentially harmful connotations associated with one of the options, we have requested that our Mascot Selection Committee take some additional time to consider these concerns and provide an updated recommendation for how best to move forward.

We are sorry to disappoint those who were hoping for an outcome today, and we thank you for your patience.
