SOUTH SALEM, N.Y. - Normally, law enforcement officials advise citizens to lock their cars to prevent the theft of valuable items.
“It didn’t help in this instance,” said Lewisboro Police Chief David Alfano.
On Thursday, windows were smashed on four parked cars at Lewisboro Town Park. Items such as credit cards and cash were stolen.
“It was kind of broad daylight,” Alfano said, “which takes us by surprise.”
The larcenies are being investigated by the New York State Police.
Alfano said Lewisboro is not alone when it comes to car larcenies. He reached out to neighboring communities and learned that both Bedford and Ridgefield, Conn. have also been victimized recently.
Residents should continue to lock their doors, he said, and also keep any valuables out of sight.
