VISTA, N.Y. - Many doctors, nurses and respiratory therapists are still without adequate PPE to wear while treating Covid 19 patients. This fact hit home for one Vista 101 scout family whose immediate family members are all in the medical field and on the front lines like so many others.
Logan Aceste, a Boy Scout from Vista Troop 101, joined his mom and dad to find a way to help. Logan’s cousins work in Long Island and Boston hospitals and asked if there was any way to get hold of something that could be given to them and other medical staff to further protect their faces.
At first Logan donated his 2 air soft head shields, but quickly realized that this would never be enough to make a difference. His cousin, a doctor in Boston, then asked if Logan could ask around for oversize plastic lab glasses that would provide front and side eye protection. (Swim and Ski goggles do not work because they get too hot, fog up and the foam can’t be bleached).
Logan’s family posted on the “Nextdoor App” a plea for plastic lab glasses and three local scientists/science teachers and an autobody shop owner reached out to donate over 60 new plastic lab glasses. There were also donations from individual scout families as well.
The first round of glasses were delivered 3 weeks ago to Long Island, Boston and New Jersey, but many more glasses are needed.
The Vista Troop 101 family is appealing to anyone who has new plastic lab glasses. For donation pick ups, please call or text your address to Sharon Aceste at 914-393-1367 and the family will pick them up and make sure they get directly into the hands of medical staff. This is not a request for money, it is for glasses only.
Just place the glasses in a bag or box at the end of your driveway, and they will pick them up (no human contact needed).
The family thanks everyone for their support of all the amazing healthcare workers who work tirelessly to help treat patients with Covid 19.
