KATONAH, N.Y. - Diana Devivo was in the driveway of her Katonah home when she was dragged to her death by a rented truck, Bedford police said this week.
In a freak Sunday afternoon accident, Devivo appears to have gotten out of the truck for some reason as it moved down the sloping drive of her 52 Anderson Road residence. Devivo was dragged under the truck, police said, suffering fatal injuries.
“Preliminary investigation reveals that there was no criminality or foul play involved in this accident,” a police spokesman, Lt. Andrew Bellantone, said. The Bedford Police Accident Investigation Unit has been piecing together details of the tragedy.
People had already tried to aid Devivo before the police arrived around 4 p.m. Sunday.
Katonah-Bedford Volunteer Ambulance Corps members rushed the victim, unconscious, to Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco. Severely injured, however, she was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
“This is obviously a tragic event,” Bellantone said in an email, “and we would like to give her family the space, privacy and respect they deserve.”
