Fifth-seeded John Jay went on the road and defeated fourth-seeded Rye, 2-0, in the Section 1 Class B quarterfinals on Oct. 28.

The game was scoreless at halftime, but the Indians got on the board after Melina O’Connor found Ella Blum for the goal on a perfectly executed corner. Blum later extended the lead on a penalty stroke.

“My girls wanted this win so bad,” said John Jay coach Debbi Walsh. “Having not played well against Rye during the season, they were ready for a rematch. Our passes were not clean today, but our intensity made up for it.”

Lakeland 6, John Jay 0

The Indians’ run ended when they fell to top-seeded Lakeland, 6-0, in the Section 1 Class B semifinals on Oct. 30.

Goalies Samantha Spieler and Ashleigh Brennan made 10 and four saves, respectively.

Lakeland went on to defeat Somers, 4-0, in the Section 1 final on Nov. 2.

Girls Soccer (12-5-1)

Albertus Magnus 2, John Jay 1

Sixth-seeded John Jay fell to third-seeded Albertus Magnus, 2-1, in the Section 1 Class A quarterfinals on Oct. 28.

The Indians gained a 1-0 lead on a goal from Mia DiChiara just four minutes in.

Midway through the first half, the Falcons found the equalizer and the teams went into the break tied at 1-1. Albertus Magnus scored the game winner midway through the second half.
