Scotch Plains – Today Tuesday, December 3, at the warehouse of the Board of Elections a recount and recheck of the machines, vote by mail, and provisional ballots confirmed Linda Karlovitch as the winner of the mayor’s race in Kenilworth. There were 230 votes by mail ballots and 20 provisional ballots. The bi-partisan Election Board of Commissions conducted the official recount and recheck of the ballots. The final count was Karlovitch with 831 votes and Candarella with 824 votes.
Upon review as determined by the commission, there were three rejected ballots. Board of Elections Administrator Nicole DiRado confirmed one ballot was missing a signature from district three, and two provisional ballots were rejected because the voter's registration did not transfer in time. Present for the recount included Democratic Municipal Chairman Peter Corvelli and Republican Municipal Chairman Jay Woloshen.
“I am gratified that again the results have proven me to be the winner” Karlovitch stated. “I will continue to prepare to be the very best mayor I can be for our wonderful borough.”
