CLARK, NJ — Residents have taken to social media in the days since the Union County Prosecutor's Office and state Attorney General took control of the Clark Police Department July 23 amid “credible allegations of misconduct.”

Many residents have expressed support for the township police. Other people expressed a desire to take a wait-and-see approach, and some expressed their discontent for law enforcement. Authorities have not disclosed what specifically the allegations of police misconduct in Clark are.

Two Clark residents felt moved to act in support of local law enforcement and invited others to join them. Nancy Azevedo Bonilla saw what has been happening across the country and locally over the last few months and decided to print and will soon distribute lawn signs in support of the Clark Police.

“It’s not been a very good time for law enforcement nationwide and Clark has been in the spotlight in a negative way for a bit,” Azevedo Bonilla said. "I wanted the Clark police to know that we stand with them, we support them and appreciate what they do on a day to day basis.”

Joseph Arancio, got to work designing T-shirts backing the Clark Police too. Feeling that law enforcement officers have been getting their share of criticism, he wanted to give support and give back.

“There is all this hatred toward the police in this country,” said Arancio. “I wanted to show our police department we are behind them and the proceeds from the shirts go to the Clark PBA #125.”

The response to both projects has been positive, according to their creators. Arancio had over 50 orders and Bonilla 200 in the first day.

Residents interested in a $10 lawn sign can purchase through Venmo @Nancy-Bonilla-12.  Send her a note with the number of signs desired.  Orders will be taken through Monday, Aug. 3.

Those wanting a T-shirt can purchase them through Venmo @Joseph-Arancio.  Send note with requested size. Shirts are $20 with proceeds to benefit the Clark PBA #125, according to Arancio.
