On Saturday, September 8th, Family Promise, the Summit-based national nonprofit leader addressing family homelessness, will host its fourth Community Day & Health Fair in conjunction with Overlook Family Medicine at St. Paul’s Calvary United Church of God in Union.
Volunteers from Family Promise, St. Paul’s, Overlook Family Medicine, Overlook Community Health, Chester Lions Club, Junior League of Summit, and many others will be on hand to offer wellness screenings, nutritional advice, healthy foods, entertainment, and more.
Doctors and staff will conduct free blood pressure, diabetes, vision, and hearing screenings. Nutritious foods will be offered, and “Better Food Bags” containing all the ingredients for a healthy meal will be awarded to the first 100 participants. Raffles and giveaways will take place throughout the day.
“People in crisis don’t necessarily have the time or energy to think about their health and well-being. For that matter, many of us overlook that aspect of our lives,” explains Family Promise-Union County Executive Director Geleen Donovan. “That has inspired us to host these fairs and offer the community more resources to learn about healthy choices and lifestyles.”
In addition to health screenings and nutrition counseling, a "Kids’ Play” corner will feature games and fun ways for children to learn about healthy habits. Free school bags and school items will be distributed while supplies last.
“Family Promise gives struggling families the skills and tools to live and succeed independently,” Donovan says. “Part of that includes health and well-being. Providing the knowledge and resources to live a healthy life is critical to long-term success.”
All are welcome to attend. Health Fair hours are 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. St. Paul’s Calvary United Church of God is located at 2780 Vauxhall Road, Union, NJ.
