TAPinto Travels Presents

October is the prime time to attend fall festivals within the North Jersey area. The weather is still warm to enjoy the outdoors with your entire family. Throughout the first weekend of October, you can travel across the state to attend events that celebrate the harvest season.

Lenape Day

One of the more unique cultural experiences occurs every October when the Great Swamp Outdoor Education Center in Chatham hosts Lenape Day. Before European colonization, the Lenape Indians made the New Jersey forests their home. During this day-long celebration on October 1st, guests will meet Lenape tribe members and watch them perform traditional dances while also demonstrating the usage of tribal tools. There will be hands-on activities such as clay molding and plant identification.

Jersey Fresh Grand Harvest Wine Festival

Autumn is the perfect time to raise your glass to some of the most delicious wines found within the state. Morristown’s Fosterfields Living Historical Farm is having a weekend festival celebrating good wine, live music, and delicious food. On October 1st and 2nd, local wineries such as DiMetto Vineyards, Wagonhouse Winery, and Old York Cellars will be on hand to offer their distinct wine collections. To keep the little ones occupied, a kids activity area and craft stations will be open throughout the weekend.

Ales n’ Tales Oktoberfest

In support of the Essex County Parks Foundation, a benefit is being held on October 1st from 6 to 9 pm at the Turtle Back Zoo in West Orange. Over 50 craft beers will be available to sample at the event along with live musical acts and arts vendors. Guests must be over 21 to attend and discounted tickets are available for designated drivers. If you’re looking for a more family-friendly day at the zoo, the following day on October 2nd will be a selection of meet and greet educational programs held at the zoo’s education center.

Chowderfest in Beach Haven

The 28th Annual Chowderfest Cook-Off Classic will be held this weekend at the Taylor Avenue Ballfield by the bay in Beach Haven, NJ.  Saturday will be filled with vendors for Merchant Mart while Sunday will be full of competition for the chowder lovers to enjoy. For more information, see the full article here.

16th Annual Pumpkin Festival

Visitors love the old-fashioned fun found during a visit to Whippany Railroad Museum’s annual Pumpkin Festival. On October 2nd, attendees can walk among “spooky” Halloween decorations while browsing the wares at the outdoor craft fair. Antique tractors will be on display along with restored railcars. Every hour, 30-minute train rides on the historic line will be running.
