ELIZABETH, NJ -- Just one day before the Union County Democratic Committee (UCDC) convention to elect a new County chair, Superior Court Judge Katherine Dupuis ruled in favor of State Senator Nick Scutari, who made the case that UCDC bylaws call for an open ballot.

Fanwood Mayor Colleen Mahr, the acting Chair of the party, advocated the use of voting machines when committee members meet on Wednesday, Feb. 21, at the Gran Centurions in Clark to choose a new leader.

Anthony Salters of Hillside, another candidate for the chairmanship, also supported the use of voting machines. In an OpEd published by InsiderNJ, Salters expressed concerns that an open ballot would lead to voter intimidation for committee

Following Tuesday afternoon's ruling, Salters dropped out of the race and threw his support behind the Fanwood Mayor.

"I’m grateful for and accept Anthony Salters’s endorsement for Union County Democratic Committee Chair, and look forward to his continued work as Chair of the Hillside Democratic County Committee," Mahr  wrote on her Mahr4Chair Facebook page.
