KENILWORTH, NJ - Boy Scout Troop 83 was awarded 2nd place in the NJ State Police Camporee at the end of May. The troop was one of 23 troops to submit a project for the STEM project challenge.
The troop’s project was titled, “Which Flashlight Battery Lasts the Longest.”
“The team built a device that automatically times how long a flashlight produces useful light powered by 3 AAA batteries,” Troop leader John Gaspar said. “They used the device to test 6 brands of AAA batteries to determine which brand lasted the longest and which brand was most economical.”
After winning the award, Troop 83 turned to another project, planting flowers outside of Kenilworth Borough Hall. A previous article about the plantings can be read here.
“The scouts take pride in their town and they enjoy giving back,” Gaspar said.
