Kenilworth Police Make Second Arrest in 2012 Stabbing

KENILWORTH, NJ - Edwin Santiago-Soto, already serving time for other crimes was arrested by the Kenilworth Police Department in connection with the Feb. 17, 2012 incident outside of Billy Buffy’s Bar that left one person stabbed multiple times. 

Kenilworth Police Detectives led by Detective Sergeant Jim Grady conducted the initial investigation which led to the arrest and prosecution of one male identified as Jonfry Rodriquezdelossan, of Elizabeth.

At that time, a second unknown male fled the scene leaving behind valuable evidence for investigators.  After processing the crime scene and collecting evidence, several items were submitted to the crime lab for a DNA analysis.

Recently, Kenilworth Police Detectives were notified by the Union County Prosecutors Office Forensic Lab of a match in the system and identified Santiago-Soto. 

Santiago-Soto, a native of Puerto Rico and formerly of Morristown was recently charged and sentenced for an armed robbery in New Brunswick. 

Once in the New Jersey Department of Corrections System he was ordered to submit a DNA sample for the CODIS database.  It was at that time that the match occurred and Grady reopened the investigation which led to charges of 2nd Degree Aggravated Assault, 3rd Degree Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, 3rd Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and 4th Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. Bail was set at $150,000. 

Santiago-Soto who remains lodged in a New Jersey Department of Corrections Facility was arrested and served with his charges on Oct. 27.  Upon being discharged from their facility, he will be transported to the Union County Jail and face his new charges.
