KENILWORTH, NJ – Merck has confirmed that it was hit by a cyber attack today as global computer viruses cause intrusion across Europe.
Earlier today, the company released a brief statement on Twitter.
“We confirm our company’s computer network was compromised today as part of a global hack,” the Twitter page reads. “Other organizations have also been affected. We are investigating the matter and will provide additional information as we learn more.”
The company’s last tweet was posted at approximately 11 a.m. No information has been released since then.
According to CNN, Ukrainian organizations appear to have been hit particularly hard by cyber attacks. British, Russian and Danish companies have reported attacks as well.
The United States Department of Homeland Security has confirmed that they are monitoring the attacks.
The pharmaceutical company’s headquarters are based in Kenilworth, but has locations in more than 140 countries across the world, according to the company’s website.
