The Life and Writing of James Baldwin

Join us on Monday, April 9 at 6:30 pm at the Union Public Library for a discussion on The Life and Writing of James Baldwin. 

The influence of writer and social critic James Baldwin reached far and wide. In this unique exploration of Baldwin's groundbreaking literary and social justice work, actor/comic Grant Cooper and scholar Dr. Lindsey Swindall engage participants in an interactive dialogue that unravels the truths of racism in this country and examines other themes in Baldwin's writings. 

Mr. Cooper's dramatic interpretations of Baldwin's writing are complemented by historical context from Dr. Swindall, leading to thought provoking questions that spark audience participation.

Lindsey Swindall teaches at Stevens Institute of Technology. She holds a doctorate in African American Studies, and has been an educator for over a decade. she has written multiple books in her field including two studies of New Jersey native Paul Robeson. Grant Cooper is an actor and comedian who has worked in the New York City area for over twenty-five years. A New Jersey native, Cooper grew up in rural Vineland and urban Camden making him uniquely suited to engage with audiences around the state.

This program is funded by the New Jersey Council for the Humanities.

All programs are free and open to the public and elevator access is available.

SPRINGFIELD, N.J. – The USGA U.S. Junior Amateur Championship starts Monday.  The pairings for the first two rounds of the 71st edition were recently announced.
