GARWOOD, NJ – Fast food connoisseurs who mourned the loss of Burger King on North Avenue in Garwood can rejoice – the Garwood Planning Board confirmed that a Wendy’s will take its place.

The existing building will be kept in place, but renovations are planned, according to Adele Lewis, secretary for the Garwood Planning Board. Those renovations include removing the play area and putting in outdoor seating.

“The basic shell of the building, the footprint of it will remain,” Lewis said. “However, most of it will be replaced with new materials. The play area will be replaced with the pergola.”

The Burger King stood on North Avenue for about 25 years before closing in 2017. The site is directly across the street from a McDonald’s.

Representatives from Wendy’s did not respond to TAPinto Cranford’s request for comment. It is unclear when the Garwood Wendy’s is set to open.
