We are very pleased that on October 22, 2020, the New Jersey Treasurer’s office extended the Senior Freeze filing deadline from November 2, 2020 to December 31, 2020.  This is a welcome development because many seniors were scrambling to meet the original date.

Nevertheless, there is still a need for applications to be prepared as soon as possible.  The Treasurer’s office requires a certification from your local tax collector that you paid your past property taxes and this may cause some delay.  In many cases, you will have to personally go to the local tax collector’s office to get the necessary paperwork completed.

If you are uncertain as to whether your application was already received by the state, call the NJ Senior Freeze Hotline at 1-800-882-6597.  Replacement forms are available from the state, if needed.  If you are planning to apply for Senior Freeze this year, the sooner you file, the quicker you will receive your check.
