KENILWORTH, NJ – Javier Fernandez and Evelyn Wetzel have been named this week’s David Brearley High School Athletes of the Week.
Javier Fernandez is a sixteen-year-old student at David Brearley High School and has lived in Kenilworth most of his life. He started playing soccer when he was five and says it is what he enjoys most. Fernandez is on both the soccer and track teams at Brearley. His best sports memory is every second with the soccer and track team. Fernandez articulates, “over time you grow closer with your teammates and it’s the best feeling.” Outside of school he likes to train with his friends and hangout when he gets the chance.
Evelyn Wetzel is a senior at David Brearley High School and plays varsity softball. This spring will be her tenth season on a softball team. She is also a cheerleader and has been part of the cheer squad for three years between fall and winter teams. Her best sports memory she says was when she hit her first home run in her high school career and received a game ball that noted her achievement. Wetzel’s hobbies include yearbook and student council at Brearley. Outside of school she coaches both softball and cheerleading for the recreational teams in town. “I love to read, I play the drums, and have a strong love for music.”
