KENILWORTH, NJ – The annual Policemen’s Benevolent Association Softball game will now be called the AJ DeVito Memorial Game in honor of firefighter AJ DeVito. AJ was a volunteer for the KFD who died suddenly in his home August 16. “AJ was honestly just a wonderful kid” Sean Kaverick President of PBA Local 135 said. “He would do anything for anyone. AJ was always a part of the parks department in charge of field maintenance. He always dragged and lined the field for us. We did it this year and realized how difficult it was when it took us a half hour to get the tractor started. Last year he was so excited for this game he dressed in baseball pants and in uniform. There was definitely a void out on the field without him.”

The softball game was held Saturday, September 21, at DiMario Park and the KPD played against the KFD. The KPD played strong and defeated the KFD 37-3. Following the game was the Summer Bash at the Kenilworth PBA Hall. Purchase of the event ticket included a t-shirt and complementary BBQ catered by Backyard Grill. All the proceeds from the bash will be donated to a charity in AJ DeVito’s name.

“We all miss AJ,” Union County Sheriff, Pete Corvelli emphasized. “The whole county misses him. He was a great all-around guy with a smile on his face at all times.”
