KENILWORTH, NJ —The Brearley varsity soccer team fought hard against New Providence Monday, September 23, trying to add another win to their record this season. After both teams battled for a tiring 110 minutes in a tough and long fight, the game ended in a 1-1 tie after double overtime.

Paige Middleton sent a long ball across the field to Amber Fernandes who took it up the field to put Brearley in the lead early in the first half. New Providence found a counter attack in the middle of the second half to put the game into a tie. The team was sharp and diligent in defense to prevent another goal. Brearley went into double overtime when the team scored, but it was taken back as an obstruction of keeper.

Head coach Michelle Ventura concluded, “In the past six years, everytime we have played New Providence we have ended in a loss. This tie was a great step in the right direction.”

The Bears take on Benedictine Academy away on Tuesday, September 24, beginning at 4:00 p.m.
