CRANFORD - During his daily COVID-19 update to the town on Thursday afternoon, Mayor Patrick Giblin announced that Cranford has suffered its first coronavirus-related death.
"It's with great sadness that I confirm this afternoon that one of our residents has passed away from the COVID-19 virus," said Mayor Giblin. "On behalf of the Township, I extend our deepest sympathy to the family and loved ones during these extraordinary circumstances."
No additional information on the fatality was available.
Along with announcing the first fatality, Mayor Giblin also announced that he received notice that there are five new confirmed COVID-19 cases in Cranford as of Thursday, March 26, bringing the total to 27.
"This virus, as we all know, is real and it's deadly, and everyone should continue to stay home unless absolutely necessary and practice social distancing and other measures," Giblin added.
