Making their mom’s proud, Giant Gymnastics of Lafayette’s Garden Gator team scored big Mother’s day weekend at their final meet of the year. The Bronze and Silver level squads took home Gold in a meet dedicated to Mom’s by host gym, Giant Gymnastics of Hackettstown. Leading the Gators were Silver gymnasts Kelly Hurley and Christina Chernati. Hurley placed 1st in Vault, Floor exercise, and Uneven Bars, 2nd on the Balance Beam and 1st Place All Around for her age group. Chernati took 2nd place on Balance Beam and All Around.
The Bronze Gators also performed well. In the 11-12 year old Bronze category: Kayla Komnath of Hardyston came home with 1st place on the Uneven Bars and 2nd place on Floor and All Around. Lia McAuliffe of Branchville took 3rd place on Uneven Bars and 5th place on Floor and All Around. Vanessa Valentine of Hampton placed 4th on Vault and 6th place All Around. Danielle Weiss of Ogdensburg came in 3rd on the Balance Beam and 4th on Floor. Rebecca Rodriguez was competing in the 13 to 14 age group for Bronze and came in 2nd place on Balance Beam and 4th place All Around.
Looking ahead to New Jersey State Championships, Hurley, Chernati, Rodriguez, and Kaitlin Peccia (who was absent for this last meet) all were practicing at both the Lafayette and Hackettstown locations in preparation for the Memorial Day weekend meet. The journey from last June through this May with new owners John Skorski and Jennifer Packard has been one filled with hard work and great strides. "The girls have worked tremendously hard this past year. Their perseverance through tough practices and the desire to improve has lead them to the successes they have achieved,” Coach Skorski touted. “They have improved by leaps and bounds and we are so excited to prepare for another successful season next year!"
