GALLOWAY, NJ - Linden High School senior Mikey Watkins secured his 1,000 career points as the Linden High School Tigers boys varsity basketball team defeated Quality Education Academy (NC) by a final score of 62-42 Saturday night at Stockton University as part of the “Battle by The Bay.”
Watkins secured the milestone in the first half and finished the game with 18 points.
“It means a lot,” Watkins said of the accomplishment. “All of the hard work I put in has paid off. Ever since I got into high school, that was a goal of mine and I finally accomplished it.”
Despite trailing 14-10 after the first quarter, Linden outscored Quality Education Academy 12-7 in the second quarter, taking a 22-21 lead into halftime.
The Tigers began to take a major grip on the game, outscoring their opponent 20-14 in the third quarter, building a 42-35 through three-quarters of play.
Linden outscored Quality Education Academy 20-7 in the final quarter, securing their third consecutive win. In total, Linden put the game away in the second half, outscoring their opponent by a total of 40-21.
In the victory, Linden senior Tavon Jones scored 25 points to lead his team in the win.
The Linden Tigers (14-4) head out on the road when they travel to play at Roselle Catholic HS on Tuesday, February 6 at 7:00 p.m.
