LINDEN, NJ - An Elizabeth man has succumbed to his injuries in a fatal car accident that took place in Linden, early Wednesday morning.
According to a statement by Linden Police officials, at approximately 1:00 a.m., officers responded to the 1100 block of West St. George Ave on reports of a serious motor vehicle crash.
According to preliminary reports by officials, a 2002 Lexus sedan was traveling east when it struck a tractor trailer parked on the side of the roadway. The driver of the vehicle, a 40-year-old man from Elizabeth, was transported to Newark University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A second occupant, a 41-year-old man also from Elizabeth, was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Rahway where he was pronounced deceased.
After the incident, West St. George Ave was closed in both directions between N. Stiles St and Rahway Ave in Rahway until approximately 5:00 a.m.
The crash is under joint investigation by the Linden Police Traffic Bureau and the Union County Homicide Task Force.
