LINDEN, NJ - A Linden resident is providing goody bags to children in celebration of Ramadan.

Fatema Sumrein is asking children who are celebrating Ramadan in Linden to register to receive goodies in celebration of the Holy month.

Ramadan is the Arabic name for the ninth month in the Islamic calendar and considered one of the holiest Islamic months.

It's also one of the Five Pillars of Islam, which are five principles which Muslims believe are compulsory acts ordered by God.

Fasting is considered to be an act of worship, which enables Muslims to feel closer to God and strengthen their spiritual health and self-discipline.

In addition to fasting during Ramadan, Muslims are focused on charity, another of the five pillars of Islam.  Ramadan ends with a three-day holiday called Eid al-Fitr, which includes feasts, gift exchanges and celebrations.
