Overturned Tanker Causes Major Delays on Route 1

LINDEN, NJ - A tractor-trailer traveling North on S. Stiles Street attempted to make a left turn southbound on Route 1 when it turned onto its side this morning. 

The tanker ruptured during the crash, spilling 9000 gallons of gasoline onto the roadway.

Route 1 is closed in both directions between Pleasant Street & S. Wood Avenue.

The driver was treated on scene for minor injuries by Linden Fire Department personnel and released.

Union County Hazmat personnel are responding to coordinate the cleanup efforts.

Linden Police Department is suggesting motorists avoid South Stiles Street from the area of 21st Street to Main Street for the next few hours due to Construction traffic issue.  Limited access to Trucks only at this time.
