LINDEN, NEW JERSEY — New Jersey State Senator Nicholas P. Scutari announced today that he is running for Union County Democratic Chairman with the backing of retiring Chairman Jerry Green who has suffered a recent illness.
Former Chairman Jerry Green, who also serves as an Assemblyman in the same legislative district, endorsed Scutari, “throughout my career, Nick’s been more than a colleague and ally. He’s been a trusted friend and close partner. It was a tough decision to step back from leading the Party, but it’s a little easier knowing we have someone like Nick ready to step in. He’ll be a tremendous asset as our Party continues to grow and expand in the coming years.”
Scutari commented, “like all of us, I’m touched by Jerry’s selfless decision to put the party ahead of himself, and I am deeply honored by his support to succeed him. Growing up as a Democrat in Union County, I always admired Chairman Jerry Green and his predecessor, Chairwoman Charlotte DeFilippo. Now, in this era of Trumpism and the devaluation of people’s rights, we must move quickly to unite our party, build on the successes we have achieved so far, and focus on what’s really important – the most critical midterm election in a generation.”
“I will work tirelessly to ensure qualified candidates are elected up and down the ballot in November so that our values are represented not just in Washington DC, but in Trenton and in our own backyard in Union County,” continued Senator Scutari.
Freeholder Vice Chairman Bette Jane Kowalski lauded Senator Scutari, “Nick is a tough legislator that supports the issues that women hold deeply and that are in jeopardy like the right to choose, equal pay, education for our children and basic human rights.”
Scutari has already received endorsements from several Democratic leaders of towns including Roselle, Rahway, Berkeley Heights, Cranford, Garwood, Plainfield, Summit, Springfield, New Providence, and Linden. Union County Democratic Women's Club, NJ LGBTQ Democratic Caucus of Union County, and Union County Young Democrats have also given Scutari support as the chairman.
