"This morning's tanker crash could have been disastrous.  Thanks to our first responders, the situation was contained quickly and efficiently," said Sixth Ward Councilman John Francis Roman, who was at the scene this afternoon.  "We are truly fortunate to have an outstanding police and fire department here in Linden.  They work tirelessly every day to keep us safe and today was no exception."

The Crown Inn on Route 1 has been evacuated.  Wheeler Park is closed until further notice due to poor air quality, and Linden Fire Department personnel are going door-to-door to measure air quality. Additional evacuations will be ordered as necessary.

Middlesex County hazmat has geared up to do an inspection of the tanker. All Union County hazmat units continue to conduct containment efforts, air monitoring multiple businesses and residential dwellings and check waterways.

We will update with additional information as it becomes available.
