LINDEN, NJ - Linden Police Department is investigating an incident involving a Linden man who attacked a Linden police officer.

According to authorities, at approximately 10:45 a.m. Sunday morning, officers responded to the 600 block of Chandler Ave after family members reported that a 23-year-old man was attempting to light his home on fire.

The suspect ignited a mattress on fire and fled from the scene. An Officer arriving on scene immediately confronted the suspect as he left the house. The suspect quickly turned, assaulted the officer, and ran from the scene; he was ultimately apprehended in the area of E. Blancke St & Baltimore Ave.

The fire was quickly extinguished by the Linden Fire Department.

The assaulted Officer was taken to Newark University Hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries. A second Officer was treated for minor injuries at Trinitas Hospital. A third Officer was treated for smoke inhalation at RWJBH in Rahway.
