LINDEN, NJ - According to a statement by Linden Police officials, an elderly woman was seriously injured in an auto-pedestrian crash, Wednesday evening.

At approximately 8:50 p.m., Linden police officers responded to the 2800 block of N. Stiles St on reports of a serious auto-pedestrian crash. Preliminary reports indicated a 2000 Dodge Durango was traveling south on N. Stiles St when it struck the victim as she crossed the street.

The victim, identified as a 72-year-old woman from Winfield Park, was treated on scene by Linden Fire Department personnel and paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson Barnabas Hospital in Rahway. She was then transported to Newark University Hospital with serious injuries and remains there in critical condition.

The driver of the vehicle, a 33-year-old Linden man, remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. According to police, he was not injured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
