Boys Basketball: Linden Tigers Defeat North Bergen HS In Metro Classic

UNION, NJ-  Time and time again, Linden High School senior Tavon Jones has continued to score big numbers for his team in every game. On Saturday night, Jones delivered for his team in a huge way. He scored 29 points, along with recording four steals and securing six rebounds as the Tigers (ranked No. 11 on’s Top 20) defeated the North Bergen High School Bruins by a final score of 74-45 in the Metro Classic at Kean University.

The Tigers played a tight first quarter with the Bruins but found themselves trailing 17-16 after the first eight minutes of action. Linden instantly took over the game through a major outburst on offense.

Linden charged out for an overwhelming presence in the second quarter, outscoring North Bergen 23-4 in the quarter, taking a 39-21 lead into halftime.

The Tigers took a 64-31 lead after three-quarters of play, following a 25-point third quarter, as compared to the Bruins’ ten points.

Also for Linden, senior Mikey Watkins added 17 points and sophomore Myles Ruth tallied 14 points in the win.

The Linden Tigers (16-5) return home when they take on The Patrick School on Tuesday, February 13 at 7:00 p.m. in the team’s Senior Night game.
