LINDEN, NJ-  The Linden High School Tigers boys varsity basketball team took back to the floor for the next round of the state tournament to try and branch off the successes of the past few seasons. The third-seeded Tigers took on the 11-seeded Ridge High School Red Devils (Basking Ridge).

The Tigers defeated the Red Devils 79-34 in the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 2, Group 4 Quarterfinals Thursday night in Linden.

Linden led J.P. Stevens 22-6 after the first quarter and overwhelmed their opponent in the second quarter, outscoring them 20-11, to take a 42-17 lead at halftime.

In the third quarter, Linden used a balanced offensive attack, building their lead to 61-26 heading into the final quarter, where Linden coasted to a victory.

In the win, senior Tavon Jones scored 34 points, while seniors Mikey Watkins and Luis Rodriguez each had 16 points.

The Linden Tigers (21-6) advance to the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 2, Group 4 Semifinals. They will take on 7-seeded Phillipsburg HS in a home game Saturday night at 7:00 p.m.
