LIVINGSTON, NJ - West Essex Swim Team member Sean Tan recently came home from the YMCA 12 Under State Championships with 7 medals.  With 128 points, Tan won 3 gold and 4 silver medals.  To win the gold, Tan finished the 200 backstroke in 2:10.84, the 200 breaststroke in 2:29.39, and the 50 backstroke in 28.26.  He collected his silver medals in the 100 yard backstroke in 1:00.30, the 200 individual in 2:11.37, the 100 individual medley in 1:00.82, and the 500 freestyle in 5:24.98.  “The thing that’s most impressive about Sean is his ability to compete in all stroke disciplines and distances,” said YMCA Swim Coach, Paul Casazza.

Tan has prepared for his recent accomplishment by training at the YMCA six times a week for 90 minutes each session.  Casazza adds that “I am very proud of Sean’s accomplishments.  He has improved his swim technique over the last four years and has become a very versatile swimmer in high lever competitions.  Tan is a motivated and driven 12 year old who has become a team leader helping to push the team toward success.”  Tan entered the Y's swim lesson program at age 8.  After only one year he was selected to join the Y's competitive swim team.

As fans watching the World Cup know too well, bathroom breaks are a serious dilemma, especially for those who don’t have a TV in the loo.  This biological necessity is exasperated by beer, which during World Cup matches also fuels a strong propensity to throw chairs and instigate riots.
