LIVINGSTON, NJ - The Livingston baseball team, just 24 hours after winning the Greater Newark Tournament, needed all it could muster to get past Kearny, 8-6, in the first round of the Section 1, Group 4 state tournament on Monday.
Livingston (18-3) scored two runs in the sixth inning to break a 6-6 tie. Chris Senney came through with 1 2/3 innings of shutout relief for the victory, and Ray Larsen pitched 2/3 of an inning for the save,
Austin Chambers went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI while adding a walk. Brett Mendez walked twice and came around to score three times. Will Egner had a double and two RBI to give Livingston the lead for good.
Ryan Cardona, the winning pitcher when the Lancers beat Nutley for the county title on Sunday, had two hits to go with a run and an RBI against Kearny.
