FLORHAM PARK, NJ – Livingston-based Sobel & Co. joined forces with Roseland-based ADP to host their sixth annual 5K Battle of the Business Run to benefit the Children’s Institute. On the evening of June 24, more than 800 participants came to compete and volunteer.
“Right now we have 138 runners on our team competing in eight races,” said Alice Chan, running team coordinator for ADP. “I started running in 1992 so I love doing this – it’s my passion.”
The Battle of the Business Run first started six years ago between Sobel & Co. and ADP to promote business to business relations.
“We tried to unite the local business community through a fun night out for everyone,” said Heather Sperduto, Director of Marketing for ADP. “We do this to promote health and wellness and to raise money for a good cause.”
Managing Partner of Sobel & Co, Alan Sobel was on the board of the Children’s Institute and explained the significance of supporting such an organization. “It’s a growing population (people living with autism) and they can use the help from us.”
This year, the Battle of the Business Run raised $3,200 which will benefit The Children’s Institute of Verona.
“Business teams, every year, continue to grow,” said Sperduto. “A lot of the companies that are here use this as a part of their wellness program.” Sperduto also pointed out the new addition of Core Therapies and Runners High to the event.
“We are excited to be a part of this because it creates community,” said Melissa Sonners, DC, DACCP of Core Therapies. “We love working with people that are health conscious or want to get healthier.”
Core Therapies offered pre and post massage and active release techniques to runners. “It’s cool because a lot of people come back after the race and say they felt a lot faster and that the race felt easier,” said Sonners.
Mike Mooney, Brand Ambassador for Runner’s High brought samples of high performance running gear. “Anything the runner needs,” said Mooney. In addition to carrying running gear, Runner’s High also offers foot analysis to help runners pick the right shoe.
The 5K Battle of the Business Run is an annual event that attracts new business teams every year while retaining its already existing avid runner base. “It’s a good opportunity to compete with co-workers and have some fun,” said Keith Gilman, ADP Division vice-president. Gilman has currently completed two marathons and has run in this competition every year.
