WEST ORANGE, NJ – The body of Montclair resident Sarah Butler, a 20-year-old woman who was reported missing by her family shortly before Thanksgiving, was found Thursday morning at Eagle Rock Reservation in West Orange, according to Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray and Montclair Police Chief Todd Conforti.
Law enforcement officers located the remains while searching in an area at approximately 11:30 a.m. Thursday. According to the Montclair Police Department, Butler was last seen in Orange, NJ on Nov. 22 in a dark blue Dodge Caravan wearing green sweatpants. First-responders recently located her vehicle in Orange.
The exact cause of death will be determined by an autopsy by the New Jersey Regional Medical Examiner’s Office, according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas Fennelly.
The Homicide Task Force is currently handling the active and ongoing investigation into Butler’s death, according to Fennelly.
