BOE Interviews Interim Board Member Candidates

LIVINGSTON, NJ – The Livingston Board of Education held a special workshop meeting on August 6 to conduct public interviews of the six candidates who applied to fill the two available interim board member seats: Lisa Cook Bayer, Rosaura Bagolie, Corinne Kyle, Patty Arnold, Ron Spring, Ronnie Konner.

The interim positions have been created as a result of the recent resignation of Dr. David Jasin (one year remaining) and Leslie Winograd (two years remaining). The interim board members will be selected by the next BOE meeting on August 13 and will serve on the board until the January 2015 reorganization meeting.

Additionally, Livingston voters will elect school board members for the one-year and two-year terms, in the November general election. Livingston residents who meet the qualifications to run for public office have until September 2 to file a nominating petition for the one and two-year terms. Thus far, Spring and Konner have filed petitions for those positions.

During the interview session of the meeting, the candidates were each given a half hour time slot to answer questions about their qualifications and experience from President Barry Funt, Vice President Pamela Chirls and board member Arthur Altman. Also in attendance along with the board were James O’Neill, interim superintendent of the Livingston schools, Steven K. Robinson, business administrator and board secretary, and Joann Goldberg, administrative assistant.

After the interviews, public comments were allowed. Livingston resident Donna Brower, who has attended Livingston board meetings for over 20 years said, “It is so refreshing to see so many people who have heart for the position. All six candidates are so qualified.”

A closed session followed the adjournment of the meeting.
