On Friday evening, April 17th at 7 p.m., Congregation B'nai Jeshurun will welcome Dr. Isaac Kramnick, who will address the congregation on the topic of America Under God.

From the time most children are in elementary school they learn to recite our country's Pledge of Allegiance daily. Did you know that most of the text is very old, but that the words "under God" were added in 1954 and that in recent years these two words have been under attack in Federal courts? Find out about the current dispute over these two words in our Pledge, and how it relates to constitutional issues of church and state separation.

Dr. Kramnick is the Richard J. Schwartz Professor of Government at Cornell, where he has taught since 1972. He is author, most recently, of Godless Constitution: A Moral Defense of the Secular State.

The TBJ Renaissance Group will sponsor a Shabbat Dinner, beginning at 5:15 p.m. The cost for the dinner is $25 per person, payable to the TBJ Renaissance Group (1025 South Orange Avenue, Short Hills, NJ 07078). The Chairperson for the event is Harriet Hirsch.

For further information contact Alice Lutwak, Executive Director at 973-379-1555 or info@tbj.org

Let the Games Begin

I am truly awed by the Olympics.  Watching these superb young athletes on TV inspires me to renew my membership to the gym and pursue my lifelong dream of taking home the gold.

The problem is that in my deluded head, I can see actually see myself standing atop the podium.  I am wrapped in a puffy designer ski coat with a huge piece of bling slung around my neck ...

In the Driver's Seat

Honey, I am going to take the Roadster out for a quick spin around the sun. I’ll be back in a few million years.

That’s nice dear. While you are out, could you pick up a gallon of milk?
