Did you know Saint Barnabas Medical Center has nearly 4,000 employees? Yes there are numerous doctors, nurses, technicians and administrative staff.  But there are also these other really cool people that have these cool long titles… Like Margie Heller who is the administrative director of community health and outreach.

Saint Barnabas Medical Center is one of TAP Into Livingston and TAP Into West Orange’s sponsors and Margie is one of three of my contacts for everything that goes on at Saint Barnabas…which is a lot!

Not only do I get the inside story about everything SBMC, I also get to collaborate with her at monthly board meetings for the Livingston Area Chamber of Commerce and get healthy snack tips for my boys (which is a big help because my son's limited food selection leaves me pulling my hair out most days)!

Margie, along with her team members Winnie Easterling and Anita Touloughian, can be found around town educating residents on what goes on at Saint Barnabas and making sure that people in the community know how to stay healthy by providing education on various topics.

You can likely find Margie in one of the community’s service areas meeting with a health officer, or at a local school working with a nutritionist and speaking with kids about how to read food labels, or participating at a local chamber event.

“It’s really about teaching people to live healthy – to eat healthy and to exercise,” Margie told me. “We really want to help people live healthier lifestyles. We even go into homes to teach medication reconciliation and evaluate homes for fall risks.”

Margie is from West Orange and currently resides in Roseland with her family but says she spends about 99.9% of her time in Livingston. So, I think it’s safe to say, Margie has the heartbeat of our community and then some!

Margie married her high school sweet heart, who also happens to be her brother’s long time best friend, Dave Heller. Together they have a son Michael who recently graduated from Drexel University with a double major in legal studies and accounting with a minor in criminal justice.

Some of Margie’s favorite places in the community include Livingston Bagel, McCloone’s Boat House and the reservation, which is one of the places you can find Margie living out what she preaches all day long at work: healthy living.

In addition to hiking, Margie loves spinning and is passionate about heart disease and cancer awareness.  She even recently formed a fundraiser at Fly Wheel called “Fly Red.” Margie said it was an important event for her because it helps to keep her brother, Howard Weiss’ memory alive.

Thanks Margie and Saint Barnabas Medical Center for sponsoring TAP into Livingston and TAP into West Orange.  Without your support we could not deliver the news to our readers in West Orange and Livingston.

Paterson Firefighter Opens Up About Struggles, Urges Others not to Suffer in Silence

February 8, 2018

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ - Not a week goes by when a tale of heroism and bravery on the part of firefighters is not told. For them, running into a burning building is as natural as running out of one is for the rest of us.

That became apparent again on Monday when members of the Paterson Fire Department responded to a fire at 268 Main Street, which led to the eventual total collapse of ...

Let the Games Begin

I am truly awed by the Olympics.  Watching these superb young athletes on TV inspires me to renew my membership to the gym and pursue my lifelong dream of taking home the gold.

The problem is that in my deluded head, I can see actually see myself standing atop the podium.  I am wrapped in a puffy designer ski coat with a huge piece of bling slung around my neck ...

In the Driver's Seat

Honey, I am going to take the Roadster out for a quick spin around the sun. I’ll be back in a few million years.

That’s nice dear. While you are out, could you pick up a gallon of milk?

In what has to be the greatest road trip of all time and space, Elon Musk, the visionary inventor, engineer, and billionaire investor loaded his very own red Tesla ...
